Build, Invent, Experiment, Imagine

Our Mixed Media Maker Programs are where creativity meets construction. Designed for ages 3 and up, these courses combine playful exploration with skill-building across a wide variety of tools, materials, and techniques. Whether a young artist is layering textures, engineering a sculpture, or collaborating on a world-building project, they'll be encouraged to think like an artist: curious, confident, and inventive.

Our approach is grounded in Studio Thinking and the Eight Studio Habits of Mind, which supports young artists in developing lifelong habits like observation, reflection, persistence, and expression. [Learn more about the Studio Habits of Mind]

What is Mixed Media at artSPARK?

Mixed media simply means we use more than one material or art form in a single creation. That might mean watercolor + collage, cardboard + yarn, wood + fabric, or markers + clay. These combinations open the door to creative problem-solving and exciting new discoveries.

Our mixed media experiences include both 2D and 3D processes, and many projects allow for personal interpretation and student-driven ideas. We guide students through foundational techniques, introduce design challenges, and support their independent thinking every step of the way.

Our Mixed Media Programs

Mini Makers (PreK - Kindergarten)

Designed for PreK to Kindergarten age artists ready to create on their own (without a caregiver), Mini Makers introduces the joy of art-making through age-appropriate prompts, hands-on materials, and playful sensory experiences. Students explore both 2D and 3D techniques while developing independence, confidence, and classroom readiness.

Maker Club (1st - 5th grade)

In this foundational mixed media course, students explore both 2D and 3D art-making through guided challenges and open-ended projects. Young makers learn how to use tools safely, follow multi-step processes, collaborate with peers, and bring their own ideas to life across multiple materials.

Maker Club Mini (1st - 5th grade)

We also offer a shorter version of Maker Club for families looking for a lower time commitment. Maker Club Mini includes the same types of creative experiences and materials but is offered in a shorter number of sessions. A perfect option for trying something new or working around a busy schedule.

Maker Club (5th - 8th grade)

Projects become more layered at this level, with greater emphasis on creative problem-solving, thoughtful design, and intentional construction. Students engage in multi-step challenges that blend invention, construction, and storytelling across both 2D and 3D forms. Collaboration, prototyping, and reflection are key parts of the process as makers bring their ideas to life.

Dungeons & Dragons: Makers of Magic

This specialty session blends storytelling, world-building, and creative construction Students (age 10+) create character miniature, design terrain, craft props, and bring the magic of D&D to life through hands-on making. No prior D&D experience needed, no requirement to play after. Just need a love for adventure and imagination.
